SLECIC settling a 30 million Claim

The Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation (SLECIC) has extended its support to local exporter, M/S Alpex Marine (Pvt) Ltd, by settling a 30 million claim after a protracted default by a buyer in the UAE. This key milestone was celebrated with the handover of the cheque by Prof. Aruna Shantharachchi, Chairman & Managing Director of SLECIC, to Mr. Rashmika De Silva, Accountant of Alpex Marine (Pvt) Ltd. The event was also attended by key SLECIC officials, including DGM-Operations, AGM-Marketing, AGM-Finance, AGM-Operations, and AGM-Claims & Recoveries. SLECIC remains committed to safeguarding Sri Lankan exporters by providing financial protection and promoting international trade. SLECIC Celebrates 46 Years of Excellence

The Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation (SLECIC) proudly celebrated its 46th anniversary, marking over four decades of unwavering commitment to empowering Sri Lanka’s export community. The milestone event was held under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Aruna Shanthaarachchi, Chairman and Managing Director of SLECIC, with the esteemed presence of Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, as the guest speaker. The event was further graced by Mr. Mahinda Siriwardana, Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, who attended as the chief guest. SLECIC, incorporated under Parliament Act No. 15 of 1978 and operating under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has been a beacon of support for Sri Lankan exporters since commencing operations on February 8, 1979. Over the years, SLECIC has played a pivotal role in safeguarding exporters against non-payment risks and facilitating trade expansion through its innovative product solutions. The anniversary celebration saw the participation of distinguished dignitaries, including heads of leading banks and financial institutions such as Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, People’s Leasing, Regional Development Bank, SANASA Development Bank, NDB, Pan Asia Bank, and Cargills Bank. Exporters representing diverse corporate sectors also attended, underscoring the strong partnerships that have contributed to SLECIC’s success. The event served as an opportunity to express gratitude to these stakeholders for their invaluable support over the years. A key highlight of the celebration was the acknowledgment of SLECIC’s dedicated staff, whose relentless efforts and commitment played a crucial role in making the event a resounding success. Strengthening Partnerships: SLECIC Engages in Talks with People’s Bank

SLECIC took the first step towards reestablishing its partnership with People’s Bank through an initial discussion led by SLECIC Chairman & Managing Director, Prof. (Dr.) Aruna Shanthaarachchi, and People’s Bank Chairman, Prof. Narada Fernando, along with senior officials from both organizations. Through this collaboration, SLECIC aims to empower direct and indirect exporters, as well as the local community, by providing its finest products and services through People’s Bank.

The Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation (SLECIC) has initiated its awareness campaign, covering districts across Sri Lanka, starting with the Maspotha Divisional Secretariat. The event saw the participation of over 150 attendees. Representing SLECIC at the event on 31st January 2025 were Assistant Manager Mrs. Nutan Thowfeek, Assistant Manager Ms. Oshani Pabasara, and Management Assistant Ms. D. Madushani. Obituary of Former Chairman Mr. Hemaka De Alwis

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing away of Mr. Hemaka De Alwis, former Chairman of Sri Lanka Export Credit Insurance Corporation (SLECIC), on 4th February 2025. His remarkable leadership and contribution to the Corporation and the country will always be remembered. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. May he attain supreme nibbana.
